Everyone needs a passion and I have found mine painting the Vermont landscape in watercolor. It’s all about the process, not the results. It’s about staying in the moment and I try to do that giving myself a chance to learn about color, placement, balance and all the rest while celebrating the happy accidents. This process is what gets me up in the morning and keeps the creative juices flowing all day long.
Partaking in plein-air painting is the best way to spend a summer day in and around Weston, Vermont. These paintings are the most spontaneous. I get together with area artists to paint the landscape during the warm months. Capturing the unique light and shadows outside is always a challenge. We have to work fast, but that adds to the excitement. Of course I take lots of digital pictures to use when the weather is uncooperative. My paintings are an interpretation of the places I visit and the vistas I capture around my home, garden and beyond.
I earned an art degree from Iowa State University and have taken several watercolor workshops from well-known and not-so-well-known watercolorists over the years. I feel my work is still evolving and I find the journey totally fulfilling.
My art affiliations include the Vermont Watercolor Society (signature member), the Monadnock Area Artists Association and the Weston Area artists. My work has been widely exhibited in the state and beyond. My paintings have been purchased by collectors in New England, the Midwest and the far west.
Diane’s Gallery will open again this May through October at her home (11 Maple Hill Road, Weston; 1 mile north of the village on Route 100). Turn at the red and blue birdhouse and follow the signs.
